Where it started
CompoundLab was born out of frustration.
Like a lot of people, I found myself searching online for financial calculators that could actually help me think through real scenarios, not just plug in a number and get a single answer, but explore outcomes, compare situations, and understand what different choices might mean for my future.
I could not find what I was looking for. Most tools were either too basic, too cluttered, or buried under ads and paywalls. So I built it myself.
What started as a personal toolkit eventually turned into something I wanted to share, because if I needed it, others probably did too.
The philosophy
Understanding your finances should not feel intimidating.
Yet for most people, concepts like compound growth, retirement withdrawals, or FIRE planning remain abstract and confusing, not because they are inherently complex, but because the right tools and explanations simply are not easy to find.
I wish I had learned this earlier. That is honestly the driving force behind CompoundLab.
The goal is to make this knowledge accessible, to give anyone, regardless of their financial background, the tools to plan ahead, run scenarios, and make better decisions about their money and their future.
What's available today
CompoundLab currently offers four in-depth calculators:
- Advanced Investment Growth Calculator - model your investment growth with multiple scenarios side by side
- Retirement Withdrawal Calculator - plan how long your savings will last in retirement
- FIRE Calculator - explore your path to Financial Independence, Retire Early, with scenario modelling
- Mortgage Payoff vs. Invest Calculator - compare paying off a mortgage today against investing the same lump sum instead
Each calculator is designed to go beyond the basics, with more inputs, more nuance, and more clarity than you would typically find elsewhere.

Who's behind it
CompoundLab is a solo project, built and maintained by a personal finance enthusiast and self-confessed number geek based in Denmark. It is operated by Dots & Dashes ApS.
This is not a faceless product. It is a resource I genuinely believe in and continue to build because I think it can help people.
